Abstract

In the context of social inclusion and with the justification of giving a theoretical foundation to the current doctoral thesis of the first author, this study aims to answer the research question formulated based on the PICO strategy: is equine-assisted therapy able to improve the practitioner's subjective well-being? Therefore, this systematic review, whose protocol is registered on the PROSPERO platform under n. CRD42021226215, was developed in the methodological perspective of the PRISMA, considering a time frame between the years 2000 and 2020, which resulted in a volume of 1,853 studies found in the MEDLINE®, Web of Science®, b-on®, Scopus® databases and the CAPES portal for periodical publications (Portal de Periódicos da CAPES); however, only one met the inclusion criteria. After a thorough analysis, it was concluded that, although the analyzed study presented, in its conclusions, a positive association between equine-assisted therapy and the practitioner's subjective well-being, more studies would be necessary to give greater consistency to the finding.
