Abstract

On January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) established a public health emergency due to the disease caused by the etiological agent SARS-CoV-2. Social isolation has strongly altered people's routine, changing patterns of physical activity and sedentary behavior. The aim of this study was to assess the level of physical activity and sedentary behavior of workers at a private higher education institution during the COVID-19 pandemic. The average sitting time during a weekday and a weekend day was approximately eight and nine hours respectively; 65% stated that there was a reduction in the practice of physical activity and an increase in sitting time during the pandemic; 22% were classified as physically inactive; 9% as insufficiently active; and 68% as physically active.
